God

The western church and the atheist victory

There is a well used adage that all evil needs to triumph is that good men do nothing. But there is something even worse – when good men see evil for decade after decade and still do nothing.  Such is the state of the western Church.  In the NIV, Jeremiah 3, starting at verse 6, is headed ‘unfaithful Israel’.  Few Christians would see a parallel between the Israel God judged with invasion and captivity and the western Church over the last 50 years.  Israel and Judah actively aligned themselves with foreign powers, embracing their gods and their ways in the hope it would bring them peace, security and acceptability.  They ignored God’s prophets who warned them to hold to their covenant with their God and forsake their infatuation with foreign cultures.

The contemporary Church has been thoroughly unfaithful.  To garner acceptability it has embraced the declining values of a failing western culture.  No good has come of it.  Its silence or complicity has aided the liberal and atheistic cause by failing to stand in its way.  Moral and spiritual cowardice has marked its way. If God were to send another Jeremiah or an Ezekiel to speak to today’s church, predicting what they would probably say is not difficult.  Here is the short list:

  • If you love your God, return to obedience to his commands:  Stop committing adultery and divorcing the wife of your youth. Honour your bodies as his temple.  Stop your promiscuity and reject homosexuality.
  • Judge situations on the basis of God’s commands.  Do not claim you are not to judge on matters on which God has already judged, providing you are not acting hypocritically.
  • Stand against the teaching of evolution.  Believe in an old earth if you must, but do not forsake the fact that God committed six literal acts of creation. Defend God as creator.
  • Do not remain silent any longer on the false god Allah and his false prophet. Tear down the pretentious arguments and practices ranged against the true God in the West by this satanic faith.
  • Stop supporting the politicians and political parties, that continue with laws and policies God hates, with your vote.
  • Publicly tell the people what is good and what is evil – to love God is to hate evil.
  • Stop preaching a gospel of relationship and centre it instead on repentance from sin and Jesus as Lord.
  • Leaders! Stop cloistering God’s people in your entertainment citadels.  Equip them properly to defend the faith(Jude 3) and proclaim the gospel of the kingdom.Send them out to be bold and courageous.
  • Publicly and relentlessly bring down the pretentious arguments ranged against God by prominent atheists.

Beatles Christianity -the ‘Emerging’ Church

So, what’s so dangerous about the emerging church, a Christian movement of the late 20th and early 21st centuries? The full force of emerging church theology, a movement that claims to be Christian, visited two Truth Watch members the other day – in the form of a 60s-something couple from Alabama, USA. A conversation was sparked after reading the inscription on the back of the man’s tee-shirt – something to the effect that Jesus is a problem for organised religion. The couple soon proved the reverse of their tee-shirt wisdom. According to them there is no hell. Rob Bell, founder of Mars Hill Bible Church and hipster pastor, has obviously spread his poison far and wide. Everyone is going to heaven. Misquoting the “no one comes to the father” phrase in John 14:6 they insisted it meant ALL will be drawn to the Father, due to the boundless grace and love of Jesus. Apparently, God’s love is so far-reaching and all-embracing that sin is not an issue. No need for deliberate repentance. God must perform some totally unbiblical alchemy, as the unregenerate pass through the vale of death, to convert the sinful soul into one cleansed of all unrighteousness. What a revelation! All those Christian martyrs could have avoided torture and execution.

So Jesus never really needed to die on the cross. It was, according to these emergent disciples, just a useful device to get the Jews on side. By getting the scriptural record wrong again they were adamant Jesus had to die on the cross because no Jew would accept him otherwise. You see, Jews insist there can be no redemption without the shedding of blood, so Jesus had to shed his blood, just for them. The fact that it was God, not the Jews, who mandated the shedding of blood for the forgiveness of sins, had been completely missed by his couple. Another contradiction also manifest itself. The Alabamians argued when Jesus said on the cross that it was finished he meant all sin was done away with so all would be welcomed into his kingdom. Oh, don’t forget the eldership issue. Male eldership is rank misogyny. See our women in leadership article.

All of this is little more than Beatles ‘Christianity’ – “all you need is love, love: love is all you need”. Now, of course, God is love, but it is a love infused with holiness so he cannot countenance sin in his kingdom. Our false evangelists of their new religion insisted love and relationship is the Alpha and Omega – no strings attached. Never-mind, for instance, that God tells us we must prove our love is real by obeying his commands. This is apparently an inconvenient truth best ignored.  If ignorance doesn’t work then just redefine God’s commands to mean the opposite of their plain meaning.

No one can be received into God’s kingdom unless they are regenerate; having confessed their sin, asked for repentance and by faith received that saving grace that expunges sin. The Roman’s 10:9 faith-based transformation must occur in this act of repentance, otherwise there is no born again transaction and without that there is no salvation. Emerging theology denies all of this when it insists all are saved. This false theology had reached the zenith of its obstinate apostasy in this couple. The fear of God and his holiness has well and truly been lost. By re-branding God’s love, grace and mercy as a free pass for all-comers, Beatles Christianity must come seriously close to blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

On the day of judgement will Jesus look on this poor American couple and say, depart from me, I never knew you? The emergent gurus are convincing otherwise faithful Christians that they can break the second commandment and mould a god in a man-made image that would have unrepentant multitudes in God’s holy kingdom. It is hard to imagine idolatry more perverse than this. Jesus warned that he will turn many away with his ‘go, I never knew you’. In this one phrase Jesus confirms the heresy in the all-are-saved dogma. If it were true then Jesus would not be turning anyone away. If he rejects many who think they know him by what means could he possibly accept those who never claimed to know him or actively rejected him? False emergent teachers have successfully blinded their followers to this obvious fact. The western Church is facing a full blown gnostic challenge that inoculates emerging church adherents against truth. Sadly, the western Church is unprepared for this assault. There is little doubt a very public schism must come between true believers and the emerging heresy.

Dealing with the problem of evil

The presence of evil in the world is often used by atheists and back-slidden Christians to justify their unbelief.  They erroneously claim evil would not be found in a world created by an all-loving and all-powerful God.  From there they conclude God cannot therefore exist.  This argument appears to have validity until the bigger picture is considered.

God is all-loving for those that accept him by faith.  He is also all-loving in the sense that he wants everyone to accept him and join him for eternity.  Jesus Christ sacrificed himself on the cross to make that possible. He submitted to evil to make freedom from evil, for eternity, possible for all.  God is also all-powerful, but there is abundant evidence that God never claimed he would use that power to prevent evil in a world that refused to honour him with the free will he had given its people.  In fact he judged the whole world in Noah’s time by killing everyone, other that Noah and his family.  He ordered the genocide of tribal groups  and he used war to bring down empires and judge his own people.  In John’s Revelation God fore-swears that he will destroy vast numbers of people  and devastate the environment in the end times Tribulation. This is not a God to trifle with.

It is simply not possible to reduce God to a IF he-has-these-attributes-THEN-he-would-do-such-and-such equation.  As we demonstrate in our article, all the factors pertaining to evil’s existence are far more complex than a manufactured argument that rests on bald assumptions about several facets of God’s nature. Atheists may be content with resting their case on this argument but all they will do is condemn themselves.  They can beat their chests about what they think God should do, but they cannot expunge God with an over-simplified and banal excuse.  Go to the articles section and read  The Problem of Evil – No Problem After all.

Admonishing the director of the NZ Christian Network

Glyn, On behalf of Truth Watch NZ I wish to register our dismay at the letter you sent to GayNZ.com in which you thank them for their fair reporting. We object to your letter on three grounds (To read the letter, go to http://www.nzchristiannetwork.org.nz/family/1067-nzcn-letter-to-gaynz-newspaper-.html) .

Firstly, the second paragraph obfuscates the true reason for opposing same sex marriage. Christians should be against ‘gay’ marriage because it is opposed to the commands of God. Marriage is mandated by God for union of a man and a woman in a life long monogamous union.

Secondly, homosexuality is a sin, but not just any sin. It goes to the heart of Man’s rebellion against God. We go into this in more detail in our article ‘A Terrible Thing has Happened: Church Leaders and Homosexuality : http://truthwatch.info/articles/a-terrible-thing-has-happened/ .

Thirdly, you imply in the closing paragraph, that the Church is not anti-gay or anti gay marriage. If the Church is not opposed to gay marriage or is not opposed to homosexuality then it is certainly not the Church of Jesus Christ. Here is a quote from our article referred to above, under the heading: ‘Where should the Church stand:’

They should be saying that the Church cannot support homosexuality at any level, least of all when it is linked to God’s most basic of institutions – marriage. Homosexual civil unions are still opposed to the commands of God. They should be saying that the only position Christians can take, if they truly love God and love their neighbour, is to express in the strongest terms that without repentance homosexuality dooms its adherents to a dark eternity. They should be saying God’s commands preclude homosexuality and the Church cannot accept or countenance homosexual relationships or unions, other than to acknowledge that they are recognised by government in legislation.

The failure of the Church to speak out loudly and authoritatively against same sex marriage confirms that Christians have traded their love for God’s commands for a secular entente. The parallels with pre-exilic Israel and Judah are disturbing. This has been apparent now for decades as the homosexual lobby has pursued its agenda with little effective opposition from the Church. In allowing this situation to continue, across the full spectrum of moral decline in the West, Christians have consistently demonstrated a blind and unjustified trust in their leaders, despite the consistent refusal of many to defend God’s commands against the advances of moral relativism.

Glyn, we can assure you that you do not represent the Church of Jesus Christ when you claim, in your letter: “I do want to thank you for not portraying it as the church being anti-gay marriage or (worse) as anti-gay.” We suggest you give some serious thought to your theology, for you are out of step with God’s commands – as are those in NZCN who endorsed your letter. Perhaps you should follow Job (23:11), who said: “My feet have closely followed his steps; I have kept to his way without turning aside.” Then read the whole of Psalm 119 and remind yourself of the importance of God’s commands. Follow that by reading Psalm 19. Then turn to the New Testament and find the verses that talk about how obeying God’s commands is love for God.

This letter will be posted on our web site and has also been sent to your board chair

xx
